“Kyrie Irving is more skilled than Allen Iverson”: Brooklyn head coach Steve Nash sings Nets star’s praise while comparing him to 76ers legend
Steve Nash says that Kyrie Irving is a more skilled basketball player than Allen Iverson, but adds that AI was a ‘crazy competitor’.
Straight from the jump, Kyrie Irving showed the entirety of the NBA that he has a skill set that quite nearly cannot be duplicated by any other player. Everything from his euro-step to get to the bucket, the reverse lay-ups from either hand, fadeaways out the post, pull-up 3s, you name it and Kyrie Irving has it in his bag.
His style of play brings up the question of who are the most skilled basketball players of all time. It’s an interesting debate topic that has the likes of Larry Bird, Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan, and Allen Iverson in the discussion.
However, in the near 10 years that Irving has been in the league, he has made himself a strong case to be mentioned in the same breath as those legends, when it comes to assessing skill. Steve Nash takes it a step further and says he’s better than one of those legends.
Steve Nash believes Kyrie Irving is more skilled than Allen Iverson
When asked if Kyrie Irving was a fair comparison to Allen Iverson, Brooklyn head coach Steve Nash didn’t hesitate in praising his own point guard:
“I think Kyrie is more skilled than Allen Iverson. Iverson was different. He was electrifying in his own right. He got to the line a lot and was a crazy competitor. The variety of shot making couple with the accuracy that Kyrie has is historic.”
Steve Nash was asked if Allen Iverson was a fair player comparison for Kyrie Irving. Nash said Kyrie is more skilled and that Iverson was electrifying, a crazy competitor, and one of the all-time greats. Full quote below. pic.twitter.com/YR0TkRNKwg

It should be mentioned that Steve Nash isn’t saying Kyrie Irving is a greater player than Allen Iverson. He only believes that Kyrie is more skillful in his ways than AI.
This shouldn’t take away from the MVP and 4x scoring champion, however. His bag was just as deep as the greatest NBA players to hit the hardwood. Someone who stood at 5’11″ like Iverson needed to be as skilled as they come if they wanted to drop 30 on a nightly basis.
