“Luka Doncic calls out what he’s gonna do next”: Spencer Dinwiddie Draws a Larry Bird Parallel For His All-Star Teammate

The Dallas Mavericks and Mark Cuban knew quite well what they were doing when they traded Trae Young plus a protected future first-round pick for a 6ft 7’, 19-year-old point guard from Europe. Luka Doncic has not let them down since then.

The Slovenian international put up over 21 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists, and a steal per game in his rookie season and that was just the trailer of what he was going to do.

With the pace at which he plays and controls the game, he might never come off as a threat to a defender guarding him in real time. But the next thing that we know, Luka Magic has a 50-point triple-doubles for fun.

His calmness on the court and slow shooting action are not the only things that can give fans some Larry Bird nostalgia from his game, Spencer Dinwiddie will tell you another aspect of the Slovenian sensation that matches with the Celtics legend.

“When he starts calling out what he’s gonna do”: Spencer Dinwiddie praises Luka Doncic

It’s one thing to see these players play from a distance, and it’s entirely different to watch them play when you’re playing the game yourself. And one privilege that the non-superstar or borderline stars of a team have is watching these greats of the game perform and helping them do it on a nightly basis.

Spencer Dinwiddie, for one, enjoys it a lot, watching Doncic get in his groove and call his plays before he actually makes it happen is one of the things that makes the former Nets guard laugh because of how atrocious it is. Listen to him tell it himself in the short YouTube embed.

Dinwiddie might not remember it but,

It is precisely what Larry Bird used to do to his opponents

Bird wasn’t stuffing the stat sheets like Luka but the 6ft 9” superstar forward of the 80s was one of his kind. His slow pace and one-of-a-kind shooting action made him look like an easy guy to stop.

But man, he is one of the most unguardable players to ever play the game of basketball. Larry could score from anywhere on the court, and would often tell his opponents how he would get his next points. And would do it to their surprise.
