After having an aggressive strike to Cleveland’s Collin Sexton’s groin area, Luka Doncic receives an immediate ejection.

Luka Doncic is one of the brightest young talents in the whole league. In only his third year in the NBA, the Slovenian star has proven to be among the best players in the league. Luka is surely one of the future faces of the league, who has been putting up tremendous performance on a nightly basis ever since his rookie season.
Despite his insane game, lately, Doncic’s behaviour hasn’t been pretty good. He has already received 15 technical fouls this season and has opened up about his emotions during the game. On Sunday night too, Luka received a flagrant-2 foul for an “aggressive strike into the groin area” towards Cavs combo guard Collin Sexton.
Early in the third quarter, as Cleveland rookie Isaac Okoro shot the ball, Doncic and Sexton were battling for the rebound, under the basket. While the Mavericks superstar tried to box out his opponent, he hit Sexton on his groin area. Referees immediately blew the whistle and eventually tossed Doncic out for his violent play.

“It obviously wasn’t on purpose, it was just two guys fighting for the rebound”: Luka Doncic
Luka seemed surprised by the call as he walked off the court laughing in disbelief. During his postgame interview, the 22-year-old spoke about the incident, defending himself by saying it wasn’t on purpose. Luka explained:
“After I saw the video, I knew I hit him, but it wasn’t nothing on purpose. I think that kind of stuff happens a lot in games, but I don’t know. That’s my explanation. It obviously wasn’t on purpose. It was just two guys fighting for a rebound, I guess.”

Luckily, even without the likes of Doncic for nearly two quarters, the Mavericks grabbed a huge 124-97 victory over the 2016 champions. Sexton, who recorded a team-high 24 points and 7 assists, also spoke about the incident. Surprisingly, the Cavs star seemed to agree with Doncic evaluation. Collin told the reporters:
“It was just a box-out play. Usually whenever someone is hand-checking, then you punch down or swing down. It was just in the groin, but it’s all good.”
The European icon has already been ejected twice in the last five games and has 15 technical fouls. One more of those would result in a one-game suspension for Luka, which the Mavericks can’t afford at this stage of the season.
With a 40-28 record, the Mavericks are on the 5th seed. However, could potentially end up playing the play-in if things go south for them in the last four games of the season.
