“Michael Jordan never once said a word to me about the book”: Famous ‘The Jordan Rules’ author Sam Smith revealed how the Bulls GOAT never confronted him once about the book
Chicago Bulls legend Michael Jordan never confronted the author of the infamous book ‘The Jordan Rules’ despite seeing him every day.
Michael Jeffrey Jordan is one of the best basketball players to grace the league. He was the face of the league and one of the most celebrated icons in the world. Reckoned to be a basketball god, till today there are people who want to be like Mike.
Michael and his Chicago Bulls team dominate the 1990s. Winning 6 championships in 8 years, finishing with a flawless 72-10 season, there was virtually no accomplishment which the Bulls hadn’t achieved.
From the outside, Chicago appeared to be a great team where nothing negative happened. As many now know, that wasn’t the case at all. The Chicago franchise had a lot of altercations going in their own organisation.
“Surprisingly, Michael Jordan never confronted me about the book”: Sam Smith
Back in the 1990s, MJ and his Bulls were one of the most loved team. However, in 1992, legendary writer Sam Smith wrote a book, that revealed everything which went on behind the scenes.
‘The Jordan Rules’ revealed how MJ punched players during practice, how he wouldn’t pass the ball to certain players during the match, and the problematic relationship Jordan had with his teammates, coaches and front office.
For someone who took everything personal, it’s pretty surprising that Michael didn’t confront the writer about it. Shockingly, the 5-time MVP hasn’t yet said one word to Sam Smith regarding the book, which tarnished his reputation. Sam Smith further added:
“The Jordan Rules was bothersome to him at the time and controversial. I used to have a good relationship with him before the book came out. I wasn’t a close friend, but we would joke when I was around the team. We travelled commercial together and all that sort of stuff. Jordan has never said a word to me about The Jordan Rules. Never once in thirty years.”
“At the end of the [documentary] interview, I said, ‘Hey, tell me something. Did you have to ask Michael permission to talk to me?’ And the guy kind of stammered a little bit.”
“And he said, ‘Well, we actually did ask him if it was O.K.’ And I said, ‘Well, what’d he say?’ He said, ‘I don’t give a [expletive] who you talk to.’ The way I understood it is, he didn’t say whether they could or could not. They weren’t sure whether they should.”
