“Michael Jordan Of Our Generation Is Here”: Shaquille O'Neal Bestows 6'4 Anthony Edwards With The Highest Honor Imaginable

Anthony Edwards had a solid 2022-2023 season, getting his first All-Star nomination. The 6ft 4″ guard has taken it up a notch representing Team USA this summer, assuming more of a leadership role. In the meantime, the youngster has been facing comparisons to Michael Jordan on social media over the past week. Shaquille O’Neal became the latest basketball aficionado to draw similarities between the two.

A few days back, a video went viral on social media that showcased the uncanny resemblance between Anthony Edwards and Michael Jordan’s style of play. As seen in the embed below, from their patented fadeaway jumpers to defensive plays, the similarities are almost spooky. If we do think about it, after Kobe Bryant, Anthony Edwards is the next superstar whose game reminds us of Jordan.

Shaquille O’Neal believes that Anthony Edwards is the Michael Jordan of this generation

Anthony Edwards has been in the limelight for his spectacular performance for some time now. Even though the Timberwolves suffered a first-round loss in the playoffs, Ant-Man’s production was stunning – 31.6 points, 5 rebounds, and 5.2 assists. After averaging more than 19 points per game in the preparatory games, the 22-year-old scored 14 points and 7 rebounds to kickstart his World Cup campaign against New Zealand.

Merely a day after Team USA clinched their first win of the tournament, Shaquille O’Neal went on an Instagram Story spree, praising the first overall pick of the 2020 Draft. Shaq posted two graphics on his stories. Firstly, the TNT analyst agreed with an old Kendrick Perkins take, calling the prodigy “the face of the league”.

Afterwards, Shaq took things up a notch by sharing a post that dubbed Ant as the “Michael Jordan of our generation”. “The [Michael Jordan] of our generation is here,” the caption of the post read. Take a look at the two graphics that O’Neal uploaded on his story in tragicpatek’s tweet.

Edward’s performance for the USA camp has impressed the coaches as well. Prior to traveling to Manila, Steve Kerr displayed his confidence in Ant by calling him “the guy” on the glittering roster. Erik Spoelstra, the team’s assistant coach, compared the youngster to one of the greatest two-guards in the history of the game – Dwyane Wade.

Fans believe Edwards is Jordan’s long-lost son

For the past few years, there has been a rumor floating on social media with users believing that Anthony Edward is MJ’s long-lost son. However, these wild speculations are not at all true. Edwards was born to Yvette Edwards and Roger Caruth on August 5th, 2001.

As seen in the embed above, it is pretty understandable why people would make such assumptions. Apart from the fact that they have almost identical styles of play, there is an uncanny resemblance in their facial structures as well.
