Modern-day basketball is nothing like the olden days, and nobody could tell it better than the coaches who watched from the courtside the players of yesteryear grind on a nightly basis without any load management. They’d kill to have the likes of Kevin Durant who could rupture his Achilles and recover in a year, and average 30 points per game after coming back.

Nobody could recover this well in those days if they faced an ACL, Achilles, or any such crucial ligament. They used to be career-ending injuries. Thanks to modern-day science, they aren’t anymore.
However, there are still plenty of injuries that keep a lot of stars out for an adequate amount of time despite restrictive minutes, and most of them not playing back-to-backs in a tight schedule. And coach Stan Van Gundy is sick of it.
90’s NBA teams had just a trainer and a strength coach, they practiced more often and harder and played more back to backs. Teams now have huge medical & “performance” staffs and value rest over practice. Yet injuries and games missed are way up. Something’s not working!

And surprisingly, Kevin Durant agrees with it.
Kevin Durant supports Stan Van Gundy’s serious concerns regarding players’ fitness
Kevin Durant recently injured his MCL and is out for a considerable amount of time when his team needed him to get the best seed in the East. And although Stan wasn’t pointing at him, The Slim Reaper supported his point by saying, “Stan spittin…”
Stan spittin…

Like the old man would understand it. The former Heat coach literally took it as sarcasm and went on about how he didn’t mean to point out KD’s injury, but the more regular ones like a groin or a hamstring pull despite all the advancements.
No. I’m not criticizing players. I’m saying that we are getting something wrong in how we prepare and train players. We can’t do anything about injuries like yours, he fell on your leg. But all of these groin, hamstring injuries etc. shouldn’t be happening as much as they are.

As wonderful as Stan was in defending himself, the Nets star had to respond back about he really meant.
Stan, I agree with u lol

Hilarious! What should be an interesting point to discuss turned fun all of a sudden. But this shouldn’t distract us from the actual subject.
NBA management is failing us big time
The money we pay to watch all 82 games even from our television (or mobile phones) is insanely higher than it was back in the 90s. Forget watching it from the stands. The match-ticket prices have gone up like Google’s stocks.
And what do we get in return? Multiple no-shows from numerous superstars a season when we had purchased tickets just to watch them play. “Game time decision” should be eradicated from the sport if the customer’s money is worth anything apart from the league and the players.
