"There's no defensive situation where you don't want me on the floor": Warriors' Draymond Green explains why he should have been DPOY over Rudy Gobert

Warriors forward Draymond Green opens up about the DPOY award, makes a case for himself as a better candidate over Rudy Gobert, Ben Simmons

If you think of the term defense, one of the first things that come to your mind is a blocked shot, right? Defense is way more than just blocking shots or rim protection. Defense, in a game of basketball, is as important, if not more, than offense. A good defense allows your offense to flow more easily.

When you think of the top defenders in the league, quite a few names come to mind. In recent years, there are players like Rudy Gobert, Draymond Green, Kawhi Leonard who top the list. This year the DPOY title came down to three candidates. Gobert, Green and Ben Simmons.

Just before the DPOY was officially announced to be Rudy Gobert, Draymond Green gave an interview with Taylor Rooks from Bleacher Report. Draymond had no doubt in his mind that he deserves the laurels more than anyone on the list.

Draymond Green has been a defensive pillar for the Golden State Warriors for a long time. The 31-year-old has been the defensive stronghold, while the Warriors’ had a lot of offensive leaders.

Right before the results of the DPOY came out, Green was in conversation with Taylor Rooks from BR. There Green explained why he deserves the title over everyone else on the list.

“You didn’t name not one person who can control the game from the defensive side of the floor,” Green told Bleacher Report’s Taylor Rooks when asked why she should have put him in her top three for DPOY over Gobert, Simmons and Bam Adebayo. “I think what [Gobert] does on the defensive side of the ball is incredible. I think the way he protects the rim is incredible. Defense is more than just protecting the rim.

“Everybody like, ‘Look, oh, man, this guy led the league in steals, that guy led the league in blocks.’ But is there a situation where you can put that guy in and make him uncomfortable? For most guys, yes. You can’t put me in a situation on defense and make me uncomfortable.”
