"You better not put your hands on my baby": When Shaquille O'Neal and Charles Barkley's on-court brawl in Lakers game was broken up by their mothers

Shaquille O’Neal and Charles Barkley recently bared the details of how they made up because of their mothers after an on-court brawl.

Chuck and Shaq are possibly the best duo on all of entertainment TV today. The duo have been part of the Inside the NBA crew together for nearly 10 years now.

The show continues to win Emmys year after year as the gold standard for halftime shows. Indeed, many NBA viewers often tune in for halftime and post-game shows to catch the quartet bickering at each other.

But Chuck and Shaq weren’t always chums before becoming co-workers. There was a time when the two famously fought each other on court, getting ejected from the game for their troubles.

Shaquille O’Neal details how he apologized to Charles Barkley

We knew that Shaquille O’Neal and Charles Barkley apologized to each other because of their mothers. But we didn’t have the inside scoop until recently, when the Inside crew sat down on ‘The Inside Story’ sets.

Shaq narrates the incident with a lot of poise:

“I don’t have an older brother, but if I did have an older brother, I would want him to be like Charles Barkley. I was always envious of Charles because he got all the calls. So the day he hit me with the ball, I was like ‘Good, I’m gonna knock him out.'”

“So we get into our little scuffle. Soon as I get to that thing, Jerome hands me the phone. And I hear this lady’s voice I’ve never heard before, ‘You better not put your hands on my baby!’ I’m like ‘Who is this?’ It’s mama Barkley and I was like ‘Hello?’ And his mom and my mom was on three-way.”

“She said ‘Don’t you know we’ve been best friends for about 20-30 years? Now after the game, you go give him a hug. You don’t need to be fighting on TV like that.’ So that’s how me and him became cool.”
