Nemanja Matic to miss the start of the Premier League season

Manchester United receive a big blow before the start of the Premier League season as Matic is sidelined after surgery.

Nemanja Matic has been instrumental for Manchester United in the 2017/18 season, in which they finished second to Manchester City.

He featured in most on United’s fixtures across all competitions. The Red Devils’ unsung hero was equally important for Serbia, with whom he played three World Cup matches in Russia.

Jose Mourinho has now confirmed that Matic will miss United’s opening part of the season. Due to discomfort, the midfielder was asked to see a doctor in Philadelphia. Upon examining, he was immediately rushed for surgery.

Having undergone the medical treatment, he is now laid off for an undefined period of time bit is certain to miss the Premier League’s opening fixture between Manchester United and Leicester City.

A Matic-less United were thrashed 4-1 in Michigan by Liverpool in the International Champions Cup. Jose Mourinho was critical about his side which featured five players who had not played a single minute of Premier League football last season. The United boss said that he would not pay to watch that game if he were a fan and displayed frustration upon Alexis Sanchez not having a good quality of players surrounding him.

Most of Jose’s players are still on vacation after featuring in the World Cup. Despite the fact that he has a great squad, the Portuguese manager is looking to welcome a few new properties before the transfer deadline on August 9th. As far as Matic’s absence, Mourinho would be hoping to see him return early. Matic has been Mourinho’s loyal and trustworthy servant since they shared a time together with Chelsea.

The Red Devils will start training in Manchester from 7th August after arriving from Stateside on the 6th. On that date, Mourinho will link up with his entire squad four days ahead of their opening Premier League fixture. Meanwhile, Matic has already returned to England to start his rehabilitation process.
