$250 Million QB Tom Brady, Who Got Unanimously Bashed for Taking a PPP Loan, Also Helped in Raising $20 Million For COVID Charity
NFL legend Tom Brady has always been a gentleman on & off the field, looking after his people during hard times. While the entire world suffered from the COVID-19 pandemic, the veteran showcased a noble gesture by donating more than $20 million along with celebrities like Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, and Peyton Manning from the sports fraternity.
The former NFL quarterback boasts a net worth of $250 million. A major chunk of this money comes from brand endorsements and lucrative advertisement campaigns. Despite running a tight schedule, the veteran often finds time to engage in social activities and help people.
How did Tom Brady arrange a large sum in just a single day?
Every offseason, the seven-time Super Bowl champion hones his golf skills with some of the most prominent personalities. The incident dates back to 2020, when the NFL legend collaborated with Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, and Peyton Manning for a golf exhibition game. It was called “The Match: Champions for Charity” an event where Brady and Mickelson partnered against Manning and Woods.
As expected, Manning and his team won the event by a great margin. Per FOX Business, it was a made-for-TV exhibition match intended to collect around $10 million for charity work. The money shall go to the COVID hit families for their immediate welfare.
To everyone’s surprise, it went beyond expectations and amassed a surreal $20 million. Getting two NFL quarterbacks for the event skyrocketed the viewership, and hence the organizers managed to earn pretty well. “Phil said he was nervous. I know Tom, and I was comparing notes,” Manning said in an interview.
“To be behind the ropes in these guys’ worlds, to be in the arena with them, it was really a special experience. I was not comfortable the entire time. Knowing $20 million was raised and helping people going through tough times, it was an honor to be invited. It’s something I’ll always remember.” he had added.
Brady faced the wrath of netizens for drawing a PPP loan
All these charity works came at a time when his wellness company, TB12, received a Paycheck Protection Program loan of $960,855. Being one of the highest-paid athletes, fans weren’t able to assimilate the necessity of this loan, especially when Brady was the face of this company. He was constantly roasted on social media.
This loan was part of the small business lending program created under the $2 trillion CARES Act, wherein the Trump administration vowed to protect small enterprises from getting doomed. Despite all these developments, the company never released any data about its employees, getting affected by the pandemic. The entire procedure still remains an unresolved mystery.
