The Green Bay Packers have had a disastrous season thus far. The big names in the unit haven’t fired and the young guns have also failed to put up impressive performances.

They had a choice before the season started, either to keep star receiver Davante Adams and let Aaron Rodgers walk away, or keep Rodgers and look for other receivers. They went for the second option and needless to say, it hasn’t really paid off.
Aaron has failed to develop a good chemistry with the young receivers in the unit and his constant nagging hasn’t really helped either. To make things worse, even experienced receiver Sammy Watkins hasn’t contributed much this year for Green Bay.
It was evident that the axe will soon fall on someone as the team just can’t keep going like the way they have been this year. As a result, the Green Bay administration has decided to let Sammy go.
Packers are releasing WR Sammy Watkins
As reported by NFL Insider Tom Pelissero, the Packers have decided to release Watkins and he’ll now be subjected to the waivers. To be fair, it was always on the cards as Watkins caught just 13 passes this season for 206 yards and really failed to deliver what was expected from him.

The $14 Million worth receiver, who actually has won a Super Bowl with the Kansas City Chiefs, was roped in by the Packers this offseason with the intent that his experience will allow them to fill the void created by Davante’s absence.
As far Watkins is concerned, it would be fair to say that he hasn’t been able to really establish himself in the league as his stints with a number of franchises have been rather short-lived.
The WR started his career in the NFL with Bills in 2014. Then he went to the Rams in 2017 but after just one year, he was roped in by the Chiefs. After staying in Kansas City till 2020, he went to the Ravens before finally making his way to the Green Bay.
It will be interesting to see where Watkins ends up.
