Aaron Rodgers

Aaron Rodgers, undoubtedly the most dramatic and yet, one of the most talented quarterbacks of this generation is finally a New Yorker now. After taking a lot of time to decide what he wants to do with his career, Aaron appeared on his pal Pat McAfee’s Show to make his intentions clear that he is not going to retire this year.

In fact, he broke the internet by claiming on the show that he wants to play for the New York Jets. As expected, Jets fans were over the moon. After all, one of the finest and most experienced quarterbacks was gearing up to join their team. However, the Packers and the Jets were taking a lot of time to finalize a deal which left fans extremely anxious for a very long time.

Aaron Rodgers trade details

Finally, NY fans can breath a sigh of relief as Aaron Rodgers is now officially a Jet. As the NFL draft date was approaching, speculations regarding the trade going awry were spreading like wildfire on the internet. Moreover, Aaron suggesting that he will only play for the Jets or else will walk away from the competition also made his fans a tad bit nervous.

Putting an end to all the speculations, Packers’ GM Brian Gutekunst recently stated that although the parties involved are still working out the details, the trade will be finalized very soon. As per ProFootballTalk, along with Rodgers, the Jets will also be getting Packers’ 15th and 170th picks in the upcoming draft.

In return, Green Bay is set to receive Jets’ 13th, 42nd and 207th picks from this year’s draft. In addition to this, the Packers will receive one of Jets’ second-round picks as well from the 2024 draft. However, if Rodgers ends up playing 65% or more of Jets’ offensive plays this season, then instead of a second rounder, Green Bay will receive Jets’ first round pick from the 2024 draft.

Did the Jets take too big a risk by trading for Aaron Rodgers

Needless to say, the Jets have taken a massive risk by going all out to get Aaron. Not only they gave up a few draft picks, but to get the 4x NFL MVP, they would be emptying their pockets as well. Rodgers was set to make around $60 million this year. However, in order to construct a Super Bowl worthy unit around him, Aaron might have to settle for a number way below that.

Looking at how Aaron performed last season, Jets fans might be a little skeptical about how he ends up doing for their franchise. While it is a fact that he wasn’t at his best last year, one must not forget that he needed receivers to compliment him but in absence of Davante Adams, it just never happened.

With WR Garrett Wilson, last season’s AP offensive rookie of the year by his side, Rodgers would be expected to break the back of his opponents in 2023.
