Amid $29.5 Million Contract Controversy, Deion Sanders Re-Shares Lil Wayne’s Fatherhood Message

Coaching sensation Deion Sanders has been embroiled in controversies ever since he left Jackson State University. As it turns out, him taking up a $29.5 million job offer from the Colorado Buffaloes has left many fans in disarray. Though, while defending his choice, Sanders has been engaging in propagating his views on fatherhood lately. His latest attempt comes in the form of sharing popular rapper Lil Wayne’s words on it.

Sanders recently shared a video wherein he talks about the topic of fatherhood in the context of recruiting his coaching staff. He says all of his coaches are great dads at home. Sanders reveals that he makes sure he only picks those who are good fathers at home. Only then, he believes, they can be good father figures to the athletes.

Deion Sanders shares Lil Wayne’s opinion on fatherhood

Recently, Deion Sanders shared a message on fatherhood said by famous rapper Lil Wayne. The message shared on his Instagram story, reads, “Important Isn’t even the word. It’s Life… I didn’t have a father. It’s not easy to do something you didn’t have done for you… But their love cancels all the challenges out”.

This comes in the wake of Sanders’ latest revelation about how he picks his coaching staff. Though that in itself has gained him a bit of applause from many, his earlier comments on recruiting have not been taken so well. Especially when he talks about family requirements for his players, causing a stir in the football community.

During an appearance on the Rich Eisen Show, Sanders revealed that he looks for QBs with a 3.5 GPA, and a dual-parent household while recruiting. “[He] has to be a leader of men,” says Sanders on the show. In stark contrast, while looking for defensive linemen, Sanders says he looks for players who come from single-parent homes and receive “free lunch”.

Sanders’ comments obviously did not go down well will the community. Former NFL star Marcus Spears took to Twitter to convey his anger at what Sanders said. His Tweets read, “This s— ain’t funny… I ain’t judging the man [Sanders]. I just ain’t rocking with what he said right here. I don’t know him well enough to claim he one way or the other but this wasn’t it.”

Sanders is already facing heavy backlash for picking money laden contract

Deion Sanders made headlines when he decided to leave the JSU Tigers to start coaching the Colorado Buffaloes. Reportedly, Sanders signed a contract worth around $29 million, making him one of the highest-paid coaches in college history. However, that move has come with some severe backlash, with many fans calling him a “sell-out”.

Sanders has vehemently defended his move, saying all he cares about is creating a formidable footballing school. Which he says he cannot do with JSU. Many are upset that he chose a predominantly white school, over empowering HBCUs. Even more surprising is the fact that the Buffaloes are nowhere as good as JSU. Though many feel that will not be a problem at all for Coach Prime.
