Deion Sanders’ “Must Be a Good Dad” Clause While Choosing Staffers Gets a Shoutout From Shaquille O’Neal
Deion Sanders is one of the most successful individuals in the football world right now. Not just as a player, but as a coach too. While he may not give up his trade secrets, he sure does not mind talking about how he chooses who to bring along on his coaching journey. A process that even NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal approves of.
Sanders has a reputation for being extremely fond of his students. In fact, many consider Sanders to be a father figure to his players. What’s more, it seems Coach Prime expects the same attitude from the rest of his coaching staff. Perhaps this is the secret to his success as a coach. Which is why, he gets so much appreciation and respect from NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal.
Deion Sanders talks about the major trait he looks at while choosing his staff
Deion Sanders recently posted a video on his Instagram page, where he is seen talking about his method of picking his coaching staff. In the video, he talks about how the first thing he needs from all the members of his coaching staff, is to be good dads. He says only a coach who is good at home, can be good to his players.
“Let me tell you something that all my coaches share. And it really helps me choose my coaching staff. I don’t have a guy on staff that’s not a great father. Like, that’s real to me. Like, you can’t not be a father to your kids, and try to raise these kids. Something wrong with that. You got to take care of home, to be able to take care of these kids over her,” Sanders says in the video.

NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal shared this video on his Instagram stories. Shaq is a big supporter of Sanders and has been sharing quite a lot of his content recently. He even shared the videos showcasing sanders’ football facility in Colorado. One can assume it is one successful sportsman supporting another.
Sanders has been facing heavy criticism for leaving Jackson State for Colorado
Sanders had a great record while he was coaching the JSU Tigers. Before he left for Colorado, he had a 27-5 record and was spearheading a charge to revitalize and promote HBCUs. His sudden departure from Jackson has left many fans in disarray. Some are even calling him s a sellout for choosing a job that pays around $5 million a year.
Most of the criticism stems from the fact that he left a rather major project unfulfilled at Jackson. When he first arrived, he was a man on a mission. Sanders’ presence turned a new leaf over for JSU. He was successful in making JSU a dominant force in the NCAA, and his departure leaves a void that will be difficult to fill.
The fact that he left an HBCU for a predominantly white university did not help at all. Though, Sanders has been constantly defending his move. He says the motivation was purely to build a powerhouse. Though the Colorado Buffaloes are a significantly weaker team, it shouldn’t be a problem for the legendary Coach Prime. What will the future hold for him and his new team?
