“Tom Brady can play until he’s 50” Bucs Gm Jason Licht Reacts to Tom Brady Contract Extension on the Rich Eisen Show
Tom Brady seems to be unfazed by his age. He will head into 2021 to lead the Buccaneers at an absurd age of 44, which is even more amazing considering that he is still one of the best QBs in the league. And GM Jason Licht feels like Brady still has a good few years left in him.
Tom Brady became the oldest player to play in a Super Bowl at 43, which is just another one of Brady’s insane records against father time. Brady led the Bucs to the Super Bowl where he beat favourites Kansas City. And Tom Brady is the reigning Super Bowl MVP, after a season where he threw 40 touchdowns for his new team.

Bucs Gm Jason Licht believes Tom Brady can play till he is 50.
Brady often spoke about his desire to play until “at least” the age of 45. But his former team, the Patriots, weren’t willing to commit to him in his early 40’s, despite all the success he had brought them during his 20-year tenure. That of course led to his departure as a free agent last March, after his contract automatically voided following the disappointing 2019 Patriots season.
When asked by Rich Eisen if Brady gave any indication that his most recent contract extension will be his final NFL contract, Licht said that he did not get that impression.
“No. I want to keep all of those conversations mostly private, but no inkling at all,” Licht said. “I told him if he wants to play until he’s 50, and he’s still playing, and he feels like he can still play, then he can play until he’s 50.”

It’s no wonder why Licht has so much praise for his QB. After turning a 7-9 team into a champion last year, delivering the first Super Bowl since 2002 and the second title in franchise history, that surely makes sense.
Despite a new team, a new system and a whirlwind of additional pressure, nobody could stop Brady and the Bucs as they tore up the league on their way to the promised land. The Buccaneers looked primed to make another Super Bowl run, so their 2021 season will be highly anticipated.
