"I Want to Break the Bank": Justin Jefferson Makes His Contract Expectations Clear to the Vikings and the NFL in One Go

Justin Jefferson was a star in college during the 2019 LSU Tiger’s national championship run. And after being drafted by the Minnesota Vikings with the 22nd overall pick, he took the NFL by storm in his rookie year. A year later, Justin Jefferson made it very clear that he was excited that he didn’t get drafted by the Eagles a pick earlier.

Justin Jefferson was a monster for the Vikings in 2020. After being the 5th wide receiver on the board, Jefferson caught 88 passes for a mammoth 1,400 yards. Jefferson set the rookie record for receiving yards in a season and the teams that passed on him were left scratching their heads.

One of these teams in all likeliness was the Philly Eagles. The Eagles picked 21st in the draft and they themselves drafted WR Jalen Reagor. But Reagor was unimpressive in his rookie year. Jefferson also had 7 touchdowns in 2020, but Reagor had less than 400 yards receiving with only 1 score in 11 games.

Justin Jefferson said he was excited to be a Viking rather than an Eagle

Justin Jefferson may have been drafted 22nd, but was glad he didn’t get picked a spot earlier.

“Leading up to the draft, you know, they had all of those mock drafts and people sharing their opinions on who is going to go where,” Jefferson said in an interview with GQ magazine. “A lot of people had me going to Philly. And, I thought I was going to Philly, honestly. The funny part is, Philly was on the board and then Minnesota called me.

“At first, I thought it was Philly, but I answered the phone and it was Minnesota. It’s crazy how all of that happened and everything, but, I’m definitely, definitely, definitely excited that I’m on the Vikings rather than Philly.”

Justin Jefferson made the Pro Bowl in only his rookie season. He had 7 100+ yard games. Including a 175 game against the Tennessee Titans in only week 3. Reagor’s season-high was 55 yards.

“Philly will definitely be edgier. You know, especially because they passed on me.” Justin Jefferson will again be in a great position entering the 2021 season. The Eagles on the other hand will probably be spending another draft pick on a WR. It will be very “exciting” to see how draft day plays out for the Eagles.
