Is Russell Wilson Blaming Himself for Broncos Coach Nathaniel Hackett’s Firing?
The Denver Broncos’ abysmal performance in their 14-51 loss to the Los Angeles Rams, led by Russell Wilson, was the last straw for their new owners. The Broncos fired head coach Nathaniel Hackett, and he was not even given the opportunity to finish the season. This season, Hackett’s leadership has come under scrutiny, but Wilson’s subpar performance has also prevented the Broncos from being competitive.

Immediately following the Broncos’ 51-14 loss to the Los Angeles Rams on Christmas Day at SoFi Stadium, which dropped them to 4-11, Hackett was fired on Monday. Given that the Broncos’ offense ranks last in the league in terms of points scored, Wilson, who has 12 touchdown passes in his 13 starts, is on pace to set a career low.
After Week 16, the Denver Broncos were 4-11, and they won’t even have their own first-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. Denver’s circumstances are not great, and the front office needs to hire a competent head coach who can raise Wilson’s performance. Russell Wilson is aware that he and his teammates share equal responsibility for the team’s loss as Nathaniel Hackett
Is Russell Wilson responsible for Nathaniel Hackett’s firing?
The quarterback for the Broncos feels somewhat responsible for Hackett’s dismissal as the head coach of Denver on Monday. Despite Hackett’s shortcomings as a head coach, everyone in the team—especially Wilson—should take some responsibility for this season’s problems.
With only 12 touchdown passes and nine interceptions this season, Wilson hasn’t lived up to expectations. Some people are even debating whether he is the bigger problem than the head coach.
Wilson admitted as much on Wednesday, but added that he still has hope for improvement. And if he doesn’t, another coach might be fired the following season, which would be bad for the Broncos and whoever the next head coach is. Wilson said “I am confident in my superior playing ability. I am aware of my abilities and potential. I’m used to racking up lots of touchdowns and victories, but that hasn’t happened this time around.”
“I have higher standards than everyone else. My goal remains the same, which is to bring Super Bowls to Denver,” Wilson added.
