Denzel Mims Injury : New York Jets WR suffers hamstring injury in training camp

Denzel Mims Injury : New York Jets WR suffered an unusual hamstring injury during Friday’s practice.

After training camp on Friday, rookie WR Denzel Mims was listed as dealing with a hamstring injury. Head coach Adam Gase said it was the result of a “weird step” that stretched out his hamstring.

Mims, who was selected 59th overall, was impressive in his 4 years at Baylor. He had 28 receiving touchdowns and surpassed the 1,000 yard mark on 2 occasions.

He has continued to earn praise in the pros. Gase said, “Since he’s been here, he’s tried to do everything right. He shows up early, tries to make sure that he does all the right things taking care of his body. It was just a really weird step he took, and it just got stretched out.”

Setback for the Jets

Jets fans are probably still adjusting to the loss of S Jamal Adams. He was traded to the Seahawks and his departure will leave a huge hole in the Jets’ defense.

Mims’ injury may also prove to be a serious issue for New York. It’s already hard for a rookie WR to adjust to the NFL coming out of college but it is especially difficult when there was no proper offseason amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Jets were expecting Mims to make an immediate impact, but now there’s no telling what will happen. If it proves to be a long term injury, Gase will definitely have to add another WR to his roster.

Mims will be out for at least a few days and there is no guaranteed timeline for a return as of yet.
