Peyton Manning Strongly Believes Anthony Richardson Has 'Truly Earned' the Colts QB1 Job; “They Can Build the Offense Around Him”

Anthony Richardson is witnessing a Peyton Manning-like start to his NFL career. Being named a starting quarterback of the Colts in his rookie season after getting drafted in the first round is exactly how Manning started off in 1998. Moreover, Peyton is very much impressed by the 21-year-old’s confidence and demeanor.

Peyton Manning is extending full support to the Colts for making Anthony Richardson their QB1. The franchise has put a lot of faith in Anthony around which, the team plans to build an offense on. Furthermore, Peyton believes that as Richardson teams up with HC Shane Steichen, who was the Eagles’ OC last season, there will be a Jalen Hurts blueprint visible on the offense.

Peyton Manning is Impressed With Colts’ New QB Anthony Richardson

Peyton Manning, in his chat with Mike Chappell of FOX59, revealed that he texted the rookie QB after the Colts named Richardson as their QB1 for their season opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars. “I congratulated him on the news and wished him the best of luck,” Manning said. “I told him I was pulling for him hard.”

He feels that the 21-year-old has a great attitude and demeanor to lead the team. Manning believes that he has certainly earned his role as a starter. “By no means would I think they’re doing this for any other reason than he’s earned the job and they can build the offense around him, even though he’s young,” Peyton added.

However, it is not just Peyton who believes that the Colts have stepped up with their QB decision. Multiple fans feel that moving on from Matt Ryan to Anthony Richardson is a big plus. The hype that Richardson has created for himself after an extraordinary Combine performance, has played a major role in this.

Anthony Richardson Has a Jalen Hurts Blueprint

Peyton Manning also feels confident that the Colts’ offense is going to be a must-watch since Shane Steichen will have a chance to mold a rookie QB after a successful year with Jalen Hurts as the Eagles’ OC. “I know Shane and (OC Jim Bob Cooter) have worked with different quarterbacks. Shane coming off what he’s done with Jalen (Hurts) is a great blueprint,” he said.

It’s no doubt that the blueprint that Shane had for Jalen Hurts is fully functional, since the Philadelphia Eagles had one of the best offenses last season. But, will that work for a rookie like Anthony Richardson is yet to be seen. The odds are not overwhelmingly in favor of Anthony, however, Manning’s take on him has forced several fans to show some faith in the talented rookie.
