Saints’ Michael Thomas Hypes Up “Who Dat Nation” With a Sean Payton-Tom Brady Partnership Rumor
Only a year after rumors of a potential Sean Payton-Tom Brady partnership rocked the NFL world, the rumor mills are back at it again. Only this time, they predict the duo to team up with the New Orleans Saints. This comes after Saints’ receiver Michael Thomas shared a tweet by ProFootballTalk about Payton and Brady possibly coming together.
Last year’s debacle is well-known to the NFL community. The Miami Dolphins were slapped with heavy penalties after they tried to court Payton and Brady into teaming up at Miami. Things ended with the NFL investigating the Dolphins and Payton retiring from active football. But according to a source for ProFootballTalk, Payton’s return to the NFL is the “worst-kept secret” in league circles.
Per the source, Payton will not be looking to land a job with the Denver Broncos or the Carolina Panthers. Understandably so, after all, only a desperate coach would want to mess with the headache that is Russell Wilson. The Saints seem to be the perfect spot for Payton to return to. The only question then is, how will they get Brady to sign for a team he’s been a rival of for 3 good years?
The Tom Brady-Sean Payton combination can become a win-win situation for all
Brady’s contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers ends this season. This means as a free agent, he can pick whichever team can both meet his salary demands, and has an actual chance of making the playoffs, in his eyes. And the Saints might not make the cut in the playoffs aspect, but their problem mainly lies in the QB area. Which Brady might be able to help with.
The Saints have not been able to get a good QB after their star Drew Brees retired in 2020. A year later, Payton’s retirement sent the Saints tumbling down the well. Payton’s return, with a seasoned QB like Brady leading the offense, could surely turn the tides of fortunes for the Saints, and present themselves as a playoff-contending team at least.
An opportunity with the Saints can also mean an opportunity for redemption for Tom Brady. This season has been incredibly poor, in every aspect conceivable. A lot can be blamed on all the off-court problems he’s been having. However, there are always some who are quick to call Brady ‘yesterday’s news’.
A partnership with Payton can help him overturn this mess. For that, the Saints could be the perfect place for him in this regard. Whether he wishes to retire after 2023 or not, he could make it a memorable ending nevertheless. There will be no stopping him once he gets his groove in New Orleans. It will be a sight to see if Brady is still playing at 50.
