N’golo Kante tells Frank Lampard his legs are dead, proceeds to sprint 50 yards minutes later in the UEFA Super Cup match against Liverpool.
After their disastrous Premier League opener against Manchester United, much was made of Chelsea’s chances at the top 6, let alone the top 4. Frank Lampard’s men were by no means poor at Old Trafford, but they simply lacked the mental strength that defines a champion team.

They seemed to be on top but every time they conceded a goal their shoulders dropped; it seemed as if they had given up. The match against Liverpool was therefore thought by many to be a one-sided affair that Chelsea were unfortunate to partake in. However, the boys in blue raised their game when it mattered and took the match to the last minute.
Liverpool edged Chelsea via penalty shootouts but Chelsea were redeemed. A spirited performance has raised the team’s morale and while the whole team played a notch better, there was one man in the midfield who seemed to be slightly above everyone else on his side.
N’golo Kante tells Frank Lampard his legs are dead
N’golo Kante missed much of the Old Trafford dumping. Having just returned from injury, Kante started at the bench. However, he played the entirety of 120 minutes against Liverpool. In that time he made sure that there was not one blade of grass he hadn’t covered.

Frank Lampard revealed that the Frenchman had told him that he couldn’t feel his leg.
“He’s not trained that much,” said Lampard in the interview.
“I’ve had to protect him because he’s had four years where he’s played and played and played.
“He had a pretty serious injury. He said to me at half-time in extra-time that he was finished and his legs were dead, and the next minute he’s sprinting 50 yards again.”
We know how important he is to this club. I’m delighted to have him and you saw the input that he had tonight.”
