PFA Player of the year 2018/19: Here are the six players shortlisted for the prestigious Premier League award. 

PFA have announced that the six-man shortlist for the Premier League 2018/19 season. There were plenty of players to have performed at the highest level, but only six players have made the final shortlist to lift the prestigious award which will be announced in the forthcoming days.

Here are the six players to have been shortlisted by the Professional Footballers Association for their fascinating performance over the last year.

#1 Virgil Van Dijk: 

Virgil Van Dijk is undisputably the front-runner for this shortlist after drastically improve Liverpool’s backline. The Dutch International has been instrumental in Liverpool’s title chase this campaign and has made them a real European force. He alongside the goalkeeper Alisson Becker have been instrumental in keeping 17 clean sheets this season.

#2 Raheem Sterling

Raheem Sterling is giving Van Dijk money for this individual trophy. The English International has scored 17 goals and assisted another 9 taking his goal contribution to 26 this campaign. Sterling is integral for Pep Guardiola and Manchester City.

#3 Eden Hazard 

Eden Hazard has struggled to perform against the big sides, scoring just one goal in the Premier League campaign. But, he is the only Premier League player to have assists and goals in double digits. He has scored 16 goals and has another 12 assists to his name. The Belgian is the first name on the teamsheet for Maurizio Sarri.

#4 Sergio Aguero 

Unlike Eden Hazard, Sergio Aguero has been the big game player for Manchester City. The Citizens striker has scored 19 and set up another 8 from 29 appearances this season. It has been a fascinating campaign for the Argentinian who is currently undroppable from the Manchester outfit.

#5 Sadio Mane 

Sadio Mane is one among the many reasons for Liverpool’s title hopes. The Senegalese International has not put a foot wrong since the turn of the New Year with 14 goals. His overall tally is 18 goals and has one assist to his name. When Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino were struggling in front of the net, Mane rose up as the main man up front.

#6 Bernardo Silva 

If any individual would be able to pick the most underrated player from the Manchester City squad, Bernardo Silva would be heading the list. The Portuguese International, who was bought from Monaco during the summer of 2017 has established himself in the starting lineup. He deserves to be in the top six along with the other five.

The six nominees for PFA Young Player of the Year are Trent Alexander-Arnold, Raheem Sterling, Marcus Rashford, Declan Rice, David Brooks, and Bernardo Silva.
