Virat Kohli has not completely recovered from the shoulder injury that he suffered in the third test match against Australia in Ranchi. (Shreyas Iyer is called up as an emergency back up for Kohli !)

Kohli had to leave the field amidst doubts that he would bat for India in the Test match. But the Indian captain defied all odds and bravely came out to bat for his team.

While he did not make any notable contribution with the bat, Kohli’s mere presence lifted the spirits of the team and the entire nation as a whole.

But that act of bravery might have come at a cost as he has not recovered from his injury. In case of an emergency, Mumbai batsman Shreyas Iyer has been called up to the Indian squad in case Kohli cannot recover in time. (Shreyas Iyer is called up as an emergency back up for Kohli !)

“It made sense to have a back-up batsman because in case of a contingency it is very difficult to reach a place like Dharamsala,” a BCCI source told ESPNcricinfo. “We will know more on Virat tomorrow.”

Shreyas Iyer has been on the fringes of the Indian team for a while now. His good performances in the domestic circuit gave him a chance in the IPL where he most notably remembered for his time as a Delhi Daredevils player.

The general consensus is that Kohli should make it for the fourth and final test match against Australia in Dharamsala. With the series locked at 1-1, Kohli would want to make a big impact and win the match and the series for his team. (Shreyas Iyer is called up as an emergency back up for Kohli !)
