Stats 1-10

TheSportsRush brings ‘Stats 1-10’, where we look at the upcoming Premier League heavyweight clash between Arsenal and Liverpool.

Arsenal face a tough test this weekend as they host the high-flying Liverpool in the Premier League. Unai Emery’s side has been mighty impressive after a poor start to the campaign. Until last weekend, Arsenal hadn’t dropped points in the league since their loss to Chelsea in the second game of the season.

The Gunners are on a 12-game unbeaten run, as Arsenal overcame Blackpool 2-1 to proceed to the quarterfinals of the Carabao Cup, where they face city rivals Tottenham.

Liverpool, on the other hand, took off from where they left last season, and have emerged as title contenders this season. Jurgen Klopp’s side is currently level on points with league leaders Manchester City, and two sides played a 1-1 draw before the international break last month.

As Arsenal and Liverpool meet each other, we take a look at ‘Stats 1-10.’

Stats 1-10

1 – Arsenal have dropped points in only one of their last 13 games across all competitions. Liverpool, meanwhile, went on a four-game winless last month, which included losses to Chelsea and Napoli.

2 – For the second consecutive time, Liverpool face Arsenal as an unbeaten side in the league in their first leg of fixtures.

3 – It has been 3 years since Arsenal last beat Liverpool in the league. The Gunners thrashed Brendan Rodgers’ side 4-1, and eventually finished 2nd in the league, behind Leicester City.

4 – Only one player has scored 4 goals in the clash between two heavyweights of the Premier League. Andrey Arshavin scored 4 goals in a memorable game at Anfield in 2009, which finished 4-4.

5 – 27 goals have been scored in the last five games between the two sides. That’s more than 5 per game! And that conveniently leads us to the next stat.

6: Arsenal have scored 6 goals against Liverpool in their last two home league games. They failed to win on both the occasions. (D1L1)

7 – Liverpool scored 7 goals (4 home, 3 away) against Arsenal over the two fixtures last season, registering a win and a draw.

8 – The historic 4-4 draw was the highest scoring league game between the two sides. It was also significant because the draw ended Liverpool’s bid for the league title. But is it the highest goalscoring game between the two sides? No.

9 – There has been a bigger goalfest than that game in Anfield – in 2007. Arsenal defeated Liverpool 6-3 in the League Cup (Carling Cup) semifinal.

10 – Arsenal’s number 10, Mesut Ozil gave Arsenal the lead in an incredible fightback in their last league clash against Liverpool. Arsenal scored 3 goals within the space of 5 minutes, before Roberto Firmino secured a point for Liverpool.
