Nominees for Best Debut Indie Title:

  • Neon White
  • Norco
  • Stray (winner)
  • Tunic
  • Vampire Survivors

Stray’s official description reads:

“Lost, alone, and separated from family, a stray cat must untangle an ancient mystery to escape a long-forgotten city. Stray is a third-person cat adventure game set amidst the detailed, neon-lit alleys of a decaying cybercity and the murky environments of its seedy underbelly. Roam surroundings high and low, defend against unforeseen threats, and solve the mysteries of this unwelcoming place inhabited by curious droids and dangerous creatures.”

From its first reveal all the way to launch, Stray managed to drum up unreal hype. Breaking sales records at launch, Stray managed nearly 63,000 concurrent players on Steam. The title also spawned the infamous ‘cats watching Stray‘ trend where pet owners would post videos of their cats reacting to the game. Despite being out for nearly six months and having a relatively short campaign, Stray still averages around 1000 concurrent players on Steam, which is an impressive feat.
