"Serena Hates Women?": Fans Slam Williams for Congratulating Carlos Alcaraz but Not Marketa Vondrousova or Clervie Ngounoue

Former tennis player Serena Williams came under fire from fans due to her partiality. After the men’s final at the Championships this year, she congratulated Carlos Alcaraz on winning his maiden title. What triggered fans was that she did not congratulate Marketa Vondrousova on winning her maiden Wimbledon title.

Fans felt this wasn’t the right way for the 23-time Grand Slam winner to behave. As she is such a mature individual who has carried the sport forward, fans expected better from her. They expect her to lead by example since she has been the face of tennis for over two decades.

Furious fans pick on Serena Williams

Some of the fans took to social media and made their feelings heard. One individual mentioned that successful women should support successful women. Some lashed out by mentioning she’s always been that way, a person who expects others to praise her on her success but can’t be the one doing it from their position. Let’s take a look at some of the comments from fans on social media.

Williams and Alcaraz exchange pleasantries

Following his victory over Novak Djokovic for a maiden Wimbledon title, Carlos Alcaraz saw commendations pouring in from all corners of the world. But some surely gave the young Spaniard a bit more joy than others. One amongst them must have been Serena Williams celebrating him by uploading a story with the official Wimbledon post on Alcaraz lifting the title. Sure enough, the 20 year old responded by reposting Serena’s story on his Instagram account.

Apart from Serena, Carlos also received congratulatory posts on social media from Rafael Nadal, Spanish F1 driver Fernando Alonso, Nick Kyrgios among others. And to top it off, legends of tennis like Billie Jean-King and Rod Laver too had good thoughts to post on social media about his victory.
