The Two clubs will be meeting on Wednesday
When Chelsea had ended up drawing Porto in the quarter-finals of the Champions League, the club’s ardent supporters had ended up rejoicing. This was the best tie the club could get, a content many envisaged Chelsea would breeze their way to a win to.
However, reports were rife in both England and Portugal of Chelsea’s squad being chuffed with the draw as well. The rumours stated the club’s players celebrating the matchup with previous Portuguese player, Paulo Futre seething over the reports.
“Chelsea players celebrated when they heard that they had drawn Porto,” Paulo Futre said. “How did I know? It’s in the English press and I called later to confirm.
“When I spoke to the person I was disgusted and I would give anything to play against Chelsea,” said Futre.
“FC Porto players have to die on the pitch, they think they are already in the semi-finals. They celebrated in the morning when they saw they got FC Porto. They can get through, but they have to sweat blood,” he added.
However, Chelsea’s midfielder, Matteo Kovacic has since gone onto clobber any such news. Talking ahead of his side’s quarter-final, the Croatian said he was surprised about the reports and flabbergasted on Pepe’s comments.
Kovacic Clobbers Reports Of Chelsea Celebrations
“That’s strange to hear from Pepe. I played with him three years but I don’t know what why he said that. When we played at Real Madrid, we knew there were no lucky or bad opponents. Porto are a tough team and they knocked out Juventus. They showed great character and team spirit to beat them,” Kovacic said as he shut down the rumours.
“It would be nice to play a final with Chelsea, amazing. We are in the quarters but we need to take it step by step. I think this Chelsea team can go very far and we are more confident in ourselves with every game. We are ready for every opponent or challenge that will come. Tomorrow is a big game and all players like to play in those. So we will be proud to play for Chelsea,” Kovacic continued.
