“The way Stephen Curry works out in drills is all about getting him as tired as possible”: Michael Porter Jr

This past offseason, MPJ spent a week training with The Baby-Faced Assassin. In a recent appearance on Richard Jefferson and Channing Frye’s podcast, the Nuggets youngster detailed the experience of practicing with the GSW leader.

“I think that the defining character with Steph is his pace,” said Porter. “The way he works out in the drills he does is all about getting him as tired as possible so he can shoot while he’s tired.”

Further, Porter Jr stated that Curry’s drills are way more intense than other players. Explaining himself, the 6-foot-10 forward:

“He does drills that some people do in the halfcourt, like the star drill when you run from the top to the corner to the wing to the other wing to then another place,” Porter continued. “But he’ll do that full court, and he’ll do that two times through. And he has to make 9 out of 10, but he’s doing the full length of the court, running this corner to the other corner.”

The Denver Nuggets are one of the most efficient three-point shooting teams in the NBA. And Michael Porter Jr is the primary long-distance shooter, among the likes of Jamal Murray, Bones Hyland, and Kentavious Caldwell Pope, for Michael Malone and co.

After working out with Steph in the summers, MPJ has been pretty efficient from beyond the arc.

Knocking down almost 3 3-pointers per game on a 42.7% efficiency, Porter Jr (47 3FGM) has made the most threes for the Nuggets this season.
