The real reason why Watson gave the final over to Pawan Negi
In what was a thrilling match up last night, the Royal Challengers Bangalore pipped the Delhi Daredevils to the finish line right at the death. But the turning point of the match was when Watson gave the final over to Pawan Negi.
With 19 required from the final over and the impressive left-hander Rishab Pant on strike, everyone thought that the left arm spin option of Pawan Negi would prove to be fatal.
But it turned out to be a masterstroke as Negi bowled Pant of his first ball and won the match right there for the Royal Challengers Bangalore.

After the match, Watson was asked about his decision to give the ball to Negi to which he just laughed. Watson gave the final over to Pawan Negi because he had a gut feeling that about it and also knew that Negi wanted to do well against his former team.

“Just my gut feel with Negi. Pant hadn’t seen him all night. I knew if I had to bowl Iqbal, he had already seen him bowl three. So it was a gamble, no doubt about that. But I know the way Negi bowls, with his variations of speed and flight as well. He’s ready to take on especially against his old team so it worked out very nicely for him.”
It was a risky gamble that paid off for the Royal Challengers Bangalore and gave them a crucial victory. This win now sets things up nicely for the RCB as they will likely be boosted by the arrival of Kohli and ABD for the next match.
