Almost entirely developed by Andrew Shouldice, Tunic is a great isometric adventure game. As an anthropomorphic fox, players must navigate the world and solve puzzles to get ahead. Directions aren’t always clear and the reward for finding for figuring things out yourself is extremely gratifying. Combat is great and engaging while exploration is easily paced and rewarding. Those looking for a fun game that can be completed in a day need not look further.
2. Neon White
Neon White is a return to speedrunning, but this time it’s intended. An indie game poised as a platforming, FPS, Neon White may look unassuming at first. However, the gameplay mechanics of each gun being cards, and finding the quickest way to end levels via shortcuts are addictive, to say the least. With fluid movement mechanics, satisfying combat, and a voice-acted story tying it all together, earns Neon White a spot on the list.
1. Stray
Crowned the ‘Best Debut Indie Game’ at The Game Awards 2022, Stray is truly unique. Commonly dubbed ‘the cat game,’ Stray was announced way back in 2020, before the launch of the PlayStation 5. Allowing players to step into the claws of an orange tabby, this indie game tells a story of family, unity, freedom, and love. Praised for its storytelling, visuals, and overall fun mechanics, Stray is an absolute must-play.
