Twitter reactions on Ajax vs Real Madrid: Real Madrid defeated the Dutch side 2-1 as Marco Asensio scored an 87th-minute winner.
Real Madrid secured a 2-1 win in the game marred with VAR controversy against Ajax at the Amsterdam Arena earlier tonight.
Nicolas Tagliafico’s opener for Ajax was ruled out for offside through VAR, as it came into play for the first time in Champions League’s history.
Karim Benzema opened the goalscoring for Real Madrid in the 60th minute. This was his 60th goal in the Champions League.
However, Hakim Ziyech pulled one back for Ajax in the 75th minute. The defending champions held their nerve to secure a late comeback in the game as Marco Asensio gave the side a win in the game.
Here’s how Twitter reacted:
Marcos Asensio has now scored exactly one goal in every round of the Champions League proper:

Ajax scored against Real Madrid but the goal was later disallowed as VAR was used to overturn a decision for the first time in Champions League history.

This VAR only works for Real Madrid

Ajax can hold their heads up high. A great performance by them but two suckerpunches from Real Madrid and VAR prevent them from a deserved result!

VAR is actually just here so you can watch Madrid cheating officially in some slow mo replays from different angles

Madrid were average tonight. Deadly in front of the goal, finished the chances they got. And again have been lucky to say the least with the VAR decisions all going in their favour. How is it possible they receive this much help every single time and nothing is done about it.

Vinicius Júnior, de que planeta viniste ese crack? Holy smokes, that is one of the most ridiculous runs I’ve ever seen at that stage by a teenager. Amazing, amazing stuff. The finish from Benzema is of the same class as well. Magical from Real Madrid!

Look at Vinícius jr here, legit bringing players down to the ground. He doesn’t let go off the ball that easily. We needed this killer instinct. Great finish from Benzema.pic.twitter.com/6PSwqC6BnC

Fair play Ajax put in a shift, but cmon, did they for one second think they’ll do anything? It’s the CL. Its the RM League. No matter how hard you try, no matter what you do. You get slapped

So, so harsh on Ajax. This performance deserves so much more.

All this De Jong and De Ligt hype, but it’s Ziyech who has been Ajax’s standout performer all night, special player.

Now look at this Ajax squad, who is consisted mostly of youngsters, being capable of playing a very entertaining football and find an excuse to explain why wouldn’t Barça have a fluid offensive football when we have the most expensive squad.
And we have Messi as well, btw.— Sᴇʀɢɪ’s Rᴜɴs ☢️ (@Robertonical) February 13, 2019
