Dustin Poirier has been a staple of the UFC lightweight division since he debuted in the weight class in 2015. The American holds the credentials of being a former interim UFC lightweight champion when he defeated then-featherweight champion, Max Holloway to the accolade.
In the seven years of representing the UFC lightweight division, the Diamond has fought the who’s who of the division. Within this span, he has competed in 14 nontitle fights, losing just once to Michael Johnson right around the early days of his 155lbs career.
Poirier recently emerged victorious over electrifying 155lbs contender, Michael Chandler. The 33-year-old had put his Jiu-Jitsu skills to the test and was able to clinch a rear naked choke on Chandler, forcing the submission from the former UFC lightweight title challenger.
His victory, however, has come under scrutiny as surging lightweight contenders such as Beneil Dariush are of the belief that Poirier cherry-picks his opponents. As well as of the assumption that he is against the idea of facing the new generation of fighters.
Needless to say, the Diamond retaliated in typical Poirier fashion.
Dustin Poirer responds to Beneil Dariush!
Poirier has maintained a sense of professionalism, humility, and respect for every opponent he steps foot in the octagon with. He is the epitome of a fighting champion and represents the best aspects of MMA.
Although Beneil Dariush recently made some intriguing comments about the 33-year-old and needless to say, it captivated the attention of the American. He delivered a prompt response to the lightweight contender.

With due fairness to the Diamond, Dariush’s perspective isn’t flawed. The current lightweight veterans have been appalled at the idea of competing against the new batch of prospects in the division.
Perhaps, Dariush’s message to Poirier will enable him to be offered the fight against the 33-year-old in 2023.
