Bellator acquires the services of former UFC title challenger Yoel Romero

Bellator acquires the services of Yoel Romero. The fighter was recently released by UFC but, instantly received a new banner.

UFC’s rival MMA promotion Bellator signs the recently released hottest free agent Yoel Romero. Romero parted ways with UFC after 8 years, the span in which he fought multiple title bouts and emerged as a formidable competitor.

In his entire UFC stint, he fought in the Middleweight division, where he was a set feature in the top rankings, and the fact that he was in the top-5 of the 185-pound weight class even at the time his marching orders came specifies the stature of the 43-year-old. Yet, UFC showed him the doors.

Romero became the first victim of the mass layoff that UFC is planning and, apparently departed on account of a slump in form and not being in the ideal age bracket. However, according to recent reports, he is not left in the open and has found a new ring to showcase his skill. As per reports, he will debut as a Light Heavyweight now.

With the broke-out of this news, a popular speculation has been solidified. It is a running conjecture that now Bellator’s another recent signee, UFC Veteran Anthony ‘Rumble’ Jonson- who also just recently exited from UFC- will eventually be targeted to fight Yoel Romero.

While, if this indeed becomes reality then it would be a sell-out fight. However, for that to happen a number of conditions will pile up. But, if it is the plan then evidently the first step has been taken by Bellator.
