Dustin Poirier Is Still Pushing For A Match Against Tony Ferguson

Even after many confirmations, which have written the bottom-line that Dustin Poirier Vs. Tony Ferguson cannot prosper, Dustin Poirier is apparently still pushing for a match against Tony Ferguson.

Two weeks have passed since the much awaited Lightweight contest between Dustin Poirier and Tony Ferguson fell through in the stage of discussion and could not become official, however, as it turns out, Poirier is not ready to let go of the potential opportunity to face El Cucuy yet, and on Monday, again took to Twitter to revive the speculations around the fight.

The Diamond’s Twitter Post

The Lafayette native posted a short but straight message on Twitter, which said, “Who wants 5 rounds?”. He mentioned Ferguson as well.

The fight between these top players of the current era was earlier targeted to become the co-main of UFC 254, and had it become official the two would have fought only three rounds. However, if escalations again take place and this time they yield the favorable result and produce a fixture outside the marquee event viz. a headliner fight of a weekly fight night event, then we might see them going after each other in a 5-round bout.

Though it is unlikely, but taking in consideration the continuous demand by the fans, and fighters, it may happen.

Why The Fight Could Not Become Official?

Dustin Poirier, who was seemingly excited about the fight, and used to give developments regarding it, also highlighted that negotiations over a proper payout failed, and thus the fight is off.

In the follow-up, UFC president Dana White blamed Poirier for not wanting to fight in the first place and questioned his intentions. White’s statement saw an immediate reaction from Dustin, who clearly said, he wants to fight.

With Dana White also saying that no efforts are in place to salvage the fight, the chapter in all probability is over, yet there is hope in the air that a major development can still take place. And therefore who knows, maybe these constant pushes may finally render the ultimate outcome.
