Jon Jones officially declares entry into UFC Heavyweight Division. He has vacated the Light Heavyweight championship in order to move up.

Jon Jones is yet to be beaten in his career. His only loss is a disputed disqualification. He first won the UFC Light Heavyweight champion aged 23, making him the youngest ever champion in the promotion. He was stripped off the title 3 times but returned every time to capture the title again.

His latest reign began with a win over Alexander Gustafon back in December 29, 2018. It continued until he announced his decision to vacate the title earlier this week. In his own words, after a decade of dominance in the 205lb division, he is now ready to the Heavyweight division.

Jon Jones officially declares entry into UFC Heavyweight Division

Jon Jones has set his sights on the heavyweight division after becoming the most dominant Light Heavyweight champion in the history of UFC.

“I’ve had only three close fights in the last decade, it’s safe to say the light heavy weight division has been cleared. Now I enter the heavyweight division when it’s at its all-time best,” Jones wrote on his Twitter on Wednesday morning.

Jones has been involved in a dispute with Dana White over contract negotiations for quite some time now. The situation had got to the point where Jones threatened to leave the UFC. However, current developments seem to suggest that they have since made considerable progress.

This is good news for everyone involved. Jones gets what he has long desired while White gets to keep his golden goose and the fans can continue to enjoy Jones in action against some of the best to have ever stepped foot in the octagon.

Archie is a WWE and UFC Editor/Author at the SportsRush. Like most combat sports enthusiasts, his passion for watching people fight began with WWE when he witnessed a young Brock Lesnar massacre Hulk Hogan back in 2002. This very passion soon branched out to boxing and mixed martial arts. Over the years he fell in love with the theatrics that preceded the bell and the poetic carnage that followed after. Each bruise a story to tell, each wound a song of struggle, his greatest desire is to be there to witness it all. His favorite wrestler is Shawn Michaels and he believes that GSP is the greatest to ever step foot inside the octagon. Apart from wrestling, he is also fond of poetry and music.
