Unai Emery on Ozil: Arsenal crashed out of the FA Cup fourth round as Manchester United emerged victorious at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal faced a 3-1 defeat to Manchester United in the FA Cup fourth round. Goals from former player Alexis Sanchez, Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial secured United’s berth in the fifth round of the tournament.

With this loss, Unai Emery’s side will aim for a successful run in the Europa League to prevent a trophyless season, as Arsenal are currently 5th in the Premier League table and a massive 16 points behind league leaders Liverpool.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored the only goal in the FA Cup tie in the closing seconds of the first half.

After the game, Unai Emery talked to media for the post-match interaction, where he reflected on the game.

Unai Emery on Ozil:

Unai Emery admitted that the side’s performance was hampered with injuries during the game.

I’m happy because our work I think is good, but the other side is bad. I think today, today there is the result and the injuries,” Emery said.

He insisted that Koscielny’s injury broke the rhythm of the side, and praised Manchester United for being ‘clinical.’

“They don’t help us to win the match, maybe with the result when it is 2-1 we were in this moment with the possibility to draw and take the possibility to win today.

“The injuries, above all the second one for Koscielny, didn’t help us because the rhythm is going down and also we needed to change the different players to play centre-back.

“I think they have been very clinical today. We were getting in the box but not creating the last pass or last action to score, but we were in their box a lot.

“We played Manchester United in the best moment of their season and also they have a lot of players to do the difference when they are in the match. Martial and Rashford they can play after and give big performances.”

He was also asked the reason behind Mesut Ozil being on the bench for the game. However, Unai Emery toughened up on the question and gave a rather savage reply when asked the same question again.

“He played,” Emery replied the first time. However, on the second time, Emery said, “Because also I think I can play other players.”

Mesut Ozil has only played 155 minutes of Premier League football since December and has often been left out of the squad for various games.

He was also included in the game against Chelsea but Unai Emery didn’t play him throughout the match.
