During the 14th match of the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 between India and Australia at The Oval, Australia captain Aaron Finch was fuming after his innings saw its culmination in the form of a run-out in the 14th over of the Australian innings.
On the first ball of the over, Australia opening batsman David Warner hit a Hardik Pandya delivery to Kedar Jadhav at sweeper cover. A bit of hesitation while coming back for the second run found Finch short of the crease at the non-striker’s end.

Chasing a 353-run target, Australia got off to a slow but safe start. From a point when Warner and Finch would have looked to convert the start into a match-winning partnership, losing one of them in the form of a run-out had to be shattering.
Just as Finch walked into the dressing room, he was seen smashing the window in anger. Having batted well for his 36 (35), the Australian skipper would have hoped of carrying on for his team.
On his dismissal
On being asked about his dismissal during the post-match presentation ceremony, Finch laid emphasis on backing his partner’s call in such situations. “You back your partners, I could have said no as well. We were starting to pick up the tempo. There are 10 ways to get out and run out was one of them,” Finch was quoted as saying.
Finch also opened up on Warner scoring 56 (84) with the help of five fours at a strike rate of 66.66 despite a soaring required run rate. “They bowled very well to Warner and he need some more time. He’s a world-class player and will get us to a flier,” Finch said.
