WATCH: Furious Hamilton lashes out at team for giving him wrong tyres
The Mexican GP has been more about tyre management than actual racing, as all teams struggled to get their tyre strategy to perfection in the high altitudes of the race track here in Mexico.
Mercedes especially have struggled with their tyres all through the weekend, with Ferrari and Red Bull managing the tyres a little better than them.
Hamilton was always wary of such a problem and hoped that something could change on race day in order to help him and Mercedes be competitive today.
Remember, Hamilton needed just a 7th place in order to clinch the world title.
However, with the hydraulic issue that Bottas had in FP3, Hamilton would have been wary of any reliability issues today.
Now, midway through the race, Hamilton, who had already been struggling on his tyres and having been pushed to 3rd place after a brilliant overtake from Vettel expressed his anger to his engineer.
Daniel Ricciardo was closing in on the gap on Hamilton, largely due to the tyre problems that Hamilton was having.
And Hamilton made sure his engineer got to know about how frustrated he was.
“You gave me the wrong tyres man” a frustrated Hamilton said on the radio.
Ricciardo was able to get past Hamilton in a couple of laps, as the tyres did not quite allow Hamilton to break well on Turn 1, with the Brit ending up in the grass and having to rejoin the race behind Ricciardo.
Hamilton is currently in 5th place with Vettel in 3rd and should be able to clinch his 5th world title(the article was written during the race).
