WATCH : John Cena defends CM Punk on Monday Night Raw
The All-State arena in Chicago is one of the greatest wrestling venues of all time, and it has witnessed some incredible wrestling moments over the years.
The rabid Chicago crowd just adds to the atmosphere, as they amp up the energy levels whenever WWE comes into town. And when you mention WWE and Chicago together in a single sentence, you often hear CM Punk’s name cropped up by someone.
Chicago’s own, CM Punk will go down in history as one of the greatest wrestlers to have ever been in the business. While we can talk at length about Punk’s controversial departure from WWE, let’s save that for another time shall we?
Even though it has been almost four years since Punk departed, we can often hear ‘CM Punk’ chants from the WWE Universe across cities. And it is always a feature in any show that WWE does in Chicago, as the crowd in their own way pay homage to their home town hero.
Last Monday Night was no exception, as the crowd were chanting ‘CM Punk’ while John Cena and Elias opened the show. On hearing this, Elias said that there was no chance that CM Punk would appear tonight, to which the crowd started to heavily boo the charismatic superstar.
Cena, who has had some history with CM Punk himself, came to his old foe’s aid as he tried to get into the good books of a Chicago crowd that has rarely had anything good to say about him.
