During the second match of the ongoing ICC Women’s T20 World Cup between West Indies and Thailand in Perth, Thailand captain Sornnarin Tippoch added another heartfelt incident to the ‘Spirit of Cricket’ moments.
It all happened during the toss when Tippoch won plentiful hearts after she presented West Indies captain Stefanie Taylor with a ‘special gift’. It is worth mentioning that this is Thailand’s first-ever World Cup match.
Playing at the historic WACA ground, Tippoch won the toss and opted to bat first. While Thailand managed to bat out their full quota of 20 overs, they would have hoped of scoring more runs than 78/9 against a strong West Indian side.
Coming in to bat at No. 3 in the third over, Thailand wicket-keeper batswoman Nannapat Koncharoenkai was their highest run-scorer with 33 (48) including one four.
Apart from Koncharoenkai and Naruemol Chaiwai (13), no other Thai batswoman was able to score in double digits. With bowling figures of 3-0-13-3, Taylor was the pick of the bowlers for West Indies. Other than their skipper, all other West Indian bowlers grabbed a wicket apiece.
Standing tall on her potential, Taylor also top-scored for West Indies as her 26* (37) played a pivotal role in a 53-run match-winning partnership for the fourth wicket alongside wicket-keeper batswoman Shemaine Campbelle (25*).
