WATCH : Sunil Gavaskar is ‘saddened’ by Anil Kumble’s departure
Former India skipper and batting legend, Sunil Gavaskar has lamented Anil Kumble’s decision to step down as head coach of team India. Gavaskar feels it is a sad day for Indian cricket, and this decision could start a terrible trend in the future.
“I have very little knowledge about the differences between Virat and Anil. But it is a really sad day for Indian cricket,” Gavaskar said.
“India have won everything since the time Anil took over. I can’t see Anil doing much wrong in one year. Difference happen in any team but see at the results,” he told NDTV.

The former captain was furious at the players as well as Kohli. Gavaskar believes that Kumble had overseen a fantastic period for Indian cricket should have been given a chance to continue his tenure as coach.
This is indeed awfully disappointing, as it ended what could have been a long and fruitful partnership. Anil Kumble has been an incredible servant for Indian cricket, and it is rather sad to see a man of his stature to be treated in such a manner.
The fact that he had to step down due to his own players is all the more disappointing. Several players in the dressing room felt that he was too much of a dictator and took offense to his strict methods.
Gavaskar does not agree with them though, as Kumble’s methods have certainly delivered results. And I agree with the batting legend as well.
It is indeed a sad day!
