Ashely Massaro suicide prevention music video, filmed months before her suicide, finally released

Ashley Massaro starred in a music video about suicide prevention months before committing suicide herself. It has finally been released with the permission of her family.

Former WWE Superstar Ashley Massaro committed suicide last year and took her own life. Before her tragic passing away however, she had starred in a music video for a song that dealt with suicide prevention. The song will now finally see the light of day.

The video was filmed between December 2018 and January 2019. The song titled “Choose Song”, was written by Brian Orlando, the morning show host and assistant program director at Long Island radio station 94.3 the Shark, where Massaro hosted a weekly show.

Orlando was inspired to write the song after his musical hero, Soundgarden singer Chris Cornell, hung himself in 2017. However, following Massaro’s own suicide, the project was shelved.

“A few weeks before we were set to launch the entire thing, Ashley fell victim to her battle with depression,” Orlando told New York Post. “I was crushed that I lost my friend and the entire project just felt gross at that point. From time to time I would think about it, but it just didn’t seem right.”

However, following the exacerbation of mental health issues in the nation following the coronavirus pandemic, Vinnie Dombroski, one of the singers of the song, approached Orlando to release the video. They then sought approval from Massaro’s family to release the music video.

“When the Massaro family gave us their blessing, it was time”

“We watched the video together,” Orlando said. “It was nothing but hugs. Lex, her daughter, got a little emotional, but there were smiles because they got to see their daughter doing something different from what she was known, which was being in a wrestling ring.

“Ashley’s mom told me that this was obviously something that Ashley felt very strongly about and wanted her wish seen through. The Massaro family is amazing.”

“When the Massaro family gave us their blessing, it was time,” he continued. “I wish she (Ashley Massaro) could have seen the finished product, and to be corny about it, I think she can.”

Ashley Massaro- tragic past

Ashley Massaro committed suicide 10 days before her 40th birthday last year. Apart from being a WWE wrestler, she had also appeared on the cover of playboy in 2007.  In 2016, she was part of a class-action suit accusing the WWE of neglecting injuries that could lead to neurological damage.

She revealed in her 2017 affidavit that she wasn’t given appropriate training during her time within the company. She was also forced to perform while still injured. Worse of all however, was her getting raped by a member of the US Army during a goodwill tour of Kuwait. She wrote that the WWE remained silent about it even though she informed them of the incident.

In 2018 she apologised for participating in the law suit. However, saying she shouldn’t have done something in the manner she did doesn’t necessarily mean that her accusations were false or that the events didn’t take place.

Like most combat sports enthusiasts, his passion for watching people fight began with WWE when he witnessed a young Brock Lesnar massacre Hulk Hogan back in 2002. This very passion soon branched out to boxing and mixed martial arts. Over the years he fell in love with the theatrics that preceded the bell and the poetic carnage that followed after. Each bruise a story to tell, each wound a song of struggle, his greatest desire is to be there to witness it all. His favorite wrestler is Shawn Michaels and he believes that GSP is the greatest to ever step foot inside the octagon. Apart from wrestling, he is also fond of poetry and music.
