Big E says he doesn’t want to act like John Cena or Roman Reigns to be worthy of a World Title opportunity

Big E says he doesn’t want to act like John Cena or Roman Reigns to be worthy of a World Title opportunity and will sink and swim on his own merits.

Injuries to Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods have given Big E a chance to explore a future in singles wrestling. While this is still early days, many are expecting this to be the stepping stone in an eventual World Title reign some day in his future.

There are some however, who are of the opinion that if Big E is to ever enter the World Title picture he will have to ditch his goofball personality in order to be taken more seriously. During his appearance on WWE’s Talking Smack, Co-host Miz told him that his personality made him unique but insisted that he would need a much more serious persona if he ever wanted to go for the Universal Championship.

Big E told Miz that he is who he is most of the time but he is serious when the situation calls for it. He added that he had no desire to be the ‘lite’ version of John Cena or Roman Reigns and instead wanted to be new and original.

“Was I not serious? In the match against Sheamus, was I not serious,” Big E asked Miz. “When the time calls for it, I am serious. To come out here, to be serious, and to be someone I am not… I’m going to sink or swim on my own merits. I am going to be myself, whether people like it or they don’t.

“I want to bring something new and original to WWE, I want my path to be the one where they go ‘oh he didn’t try to be John Cena lite, he didn’t try to be Roman Reigns lite. He was himself from the beginning’. Why would I change to make people think that I’m worthy of a WWE World title opportunity?”

I was stoic, people didn’t care!

He then reminded the Miz that he used to be serious early on in his career and received little to no reactions until he became himself and forged his own path. He expressed his desire to continue walking on the same path and not be like anyone else.

“For all these years, I’ve been a goofball,” He said. “All these years, now why am I suddenly serious on this path to becoming a world champion. Why does that make any sense at all? When the time comes, when I’m in the ring, I will deliver. That is my goal to deliver to give my very best.

“But to be stoic for now reason? I did that, I was stoic; I came out here with no personality for years when people didn’t care, I worked hard to get little to no reaction. I’ve gone down that path. Now, I’m going to be myself; I’m going to be free, I’m going to forge my own path. I’m not going to try to be like anyone else, I’m not going to follow anyone. All that matters is that when the bell rings, can I get it done? I think I can get it done.”

Each bruise a story to tell, each wound a song of struggle, his greatest desire is to be there to witness it all.
