CM Punk has faced massive heat for his backstage fight with The Elite after last year’s post-All Out media scrum. Not only has he lost credibility, but he also became the biggest villain in AEW history. And it’s not just fans and fellow stars, The Straight Edge Superstar has received criticism from some veterans as well. In fact, WWE Hall of Famer Eric Bischoff has been pretty forthcoming about his thoughts on CM Punk.
Last year, after the whole Punk-Elite drama, there were rumors that Triple H was open to talking to The Straight Edge Superstar. Eric Bischoff openly went on to state that The Game should make no effort to re-sign CM Punk.
Recently, there have been reports that Punk is set for a big meeting with AEW to discuss a potential return. Well, the WWE Hall of Famer, once again, fired shots at the 2-time AEW World Champion.
Eric Bischoff doesn’t care about CM Punk returning to AEW, Calls him overblown and overrated
During the latest episode of his “83 Weeks” podcast, Eric Bischoff talked about the rumors of CM Punk potentially returning to AEW. When asked about his opinions, the Hall of Famer stated he neither cares nor gives a f**k. He believes Tony Khan’s company has nothing to offer other than offscreen drama.
Bischoff stated that if your outside drama exceeds what you are creating onscreen, especially if you are a scripted wrestling company, that’s a bigger problem. As to The Straight Edge Superstar, the wrestling veteran said this:
“I don’t particularly think he’s [CM Punk] that talented. I think he’s overblown, I think he’s highly overrated… In terms of what he can actually deliver in the ring, we’ve seen it. We’ve experienced it. It doesn’t live up to the hype of CM Punk.”
The Hall of Famer noted that The Straight Edge Superstar is a smart person. He has got leverage over Tony Khan, and he has been taking advantage of it. But when it comes to living up to the hype, Eric Bischoff feels CM Punk doesn’t deliver.
Will the two-time AEW World Champion make his comeback to the company?
Well, CM Punk has been under suspension since September of last year. There were reports about him going through some injury, but by now, he has most probably recovered from that.
As far as his return is concerned, Dave Meltzer recently noted that there will soon be a meeting between Punk and Tony Khan. It will also involve big AEW names like Chris Jericho, FTR, and maybe others. Tony reportedly wants his 2-time champion back in the company.
CM Punk’s return is largely expected. It’s a tenuous situation because the dressing room issues have not been settled.
The working idea was that the new AEW Saturday show would star Punk and that they would split crews to a large degree.

Moreover, the AEW President is planning a show on Saturday, which he wants to be led by The Straight Edge Superstar. As to what Eric Bischoff said, it will be interesting to see if or how CM Punk responds.
