Though Dwane “The Rock” Johnson is a bankable name in Hollywood, his recent movie didn’t work well at the box office. Last year in October, The Great One released his most-anticipated DC Superhero movie, Black Adam. Despite all the hype and promotions, Rock’s comic book adaptation failed to impress the audience. So, DC Studios has kept Black Adam out of its rebooted universe. A lot might believe this is all because there’s new management that is changing the whole DCEU. Well, reports claim things were shaky between The Rock and DC even before the cancellation of Black Adam.
The Rock shocked everyone by convincing DC higher-ups to include Henry Cavill’s Superman cameo in Black Adam. In fact, fans were sure The Great One is going to change the hierarchy of DCEU. However, not only did the movie underperform but the sequel has also been canceled.
The Rock and DC were not on good terms as his demands didn’t match the returns
According to a report, things started to go south between The Rock and Warners during the time of the “DC League of Super-Pets”. Insiders have claimed that Dwayne Johnson wanted a producing credit on the animated movie. However, when it came to promotions of the project, he did very little.
Moreover, The Rock also insisted on a tequila bar during the New York premiere of his Black Adam movie. Despite the movie being PG-13, he wanted to feature his Teremana brand. In short, the insider claims The Rock’s “demands increased and the returns just weren’t there”.
Last year, Discovery also hired James Gunn and Peter Safran as co-chairmen and co-CEOs of DC Studios. And in their future vision, projects like Superman and Black Adam are not a part of DCEU as of now. Although DC and Rock’s Seven Bucks Productions might work together in the future, Black Adam 2 is not in the plans.
The Hollywood Megastar might be making a return to his old home very soon
Well, things might not be good for The Great One in Hollywood, but it could be different in the WWE ring. As reports have been claiming for months, The Rock might face Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 39. And for that to happen, he needs to make a WWE return soon. Looking at the 2023 calendar, this month’s Royal Rumble seems to be the best place for that.
Moreover, reports proclaim not only is he returning later this month but also winning the Royal Rumble 2023. Although nothing is confirmed yet, it certainly will be one hell of a return. And considering that Wrestlemania 39 is in Hollywood, a match between two Samoan Brothers could very well be the match of the ages.
