Big E says he was almost part of the Shield

Big E says he was almost part of the Shield. The Intercontinental champion eventually moved to the main roster as a solo act.

Big E is currently in the middle of a long awaited singles run. He is on his second reign as the Intercontinental Champion and will likely head to Wrestlemania 37 in a couple of months with the title wrapped around his waist.

Big E is yet to partake in a singles match at the Grandest stage of all. He has spent a majority of his career with the New Day and most of his matches at Wrestlemania have been tag team clashes. E wouldn’t mind though seeing as he enjoyed being part of that trio. It seems however, that the New Day wasn’t the first stable he was considered to be a part of.

Big E says he was almost part of the Shield

During his 24 special on the WWE Network, Big E revealed that he was training alongside, Seth Rollins, Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose. There was deliberation on whether they should all be called up together as part of a group. In the end, the original three members of the Shield debuted together, while E became Dolph Ziggler’s heater.

“My first feeling of getting called up was 2012. I was doing loops. Any collective period of days is a loop. It’s Roman [Reigns], Seth [Rollins], Dean [Ambrose], and me. There was some thought of bringing all four of us in together as a group. Obviously, that changes, they go on to international fame as The Shield. I was told, ‘You’re going to be with Dolph and AJ, on your very first night, you’re going to attack John Cena.’ I’m thinking, ‘Man, this is it.”

All three members of the Shield went on to become World Champions in the WWE. As a group however, the New Day can very well compete with the Shield. The trio were a dominant force in the tag division and maybe one day Big E will emulate Kofi Kingston and pursue the WWE Championship.

Like most combat sports enthusiasts, his passion for watching people fight began with WWE when he witnessed a young Brock Lesnar massacre Hulk Hogan back in 2002. This very passion soon branched out to boxing and mixed martial arts. Over the years he fell in love with the theatrics that preceded the bell and the poetic carnage that followed after. Each bruise a story to tell, each wound a song of struggle, his greatest desire is to be there to witness it all. His favorite wrestler is Shawn Michaels and he believes that GSP is the greatest to ever step foot inside the octagon. Apart from wrestling, he is also fond of poetry and music.
