Why is SummerSlam taking place on a Saturday this year

Why is SummerSlam taking place on a Saturday this year? WWE SummerSlam 2021 has been announced for Saturday, August 21st.

WWE Pay Per Views usually take place on Sundays. There have been a few that have taken place on other days but never for a major pay per view. That is set to change this year with WWE announcing earlier this week SummerSlam will be on Saturday, August 21.

According to Dave Meltzer, this has been done due to Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas wanting it. Speaking on the latest Wrestling Observer Radio, Meltzer added that while a venue has not been officially named, because they have already announced the date, the WWE will have to stick by it; even if it’s a tough pick due to Manny Pacquiao challenging WBC and IBF welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr. on the same night.

Why is SummerSlam taking place on a Saturday this year?

“So this is the deal, the reason it’s a Saturday is because the stadium in Vegas wanted a Saturday. However, it may not be in Vegas, but they already have the date. The date’s a bad date because it’s the same as Manny Pacquiao and Errol Spence.”

Vegas was the front runner. However, due to the boxing match there,  the WWE may decide against it.

The location will be announced on NBC next Saturday, June 5 during the 2021 Belmont Stakes’ pre-race show. SummerSlam tickets go on sale Friday, June 18.

Like most combat sports enthusiasts, his passion for watching people fight began with WWE when he witnessed a young Brock Lesnar massacre Hulk Hogan back in 2002. This very passion soon branched out to boxing and mixed martial arts. Over the years he fell in love with the theatrics that preceded the bell and the poetic carnage that followed after. Each bruise a story to tell, each wound a song of struggle, his greatest desire is to be there to witness it all. His favorite wrestler is Shawn Michaels and he believes that GSP is the greatest to ever step foot inside the octagon. Apart from wrestling, he is also fond of poetry and music.
