Drew McIntyre leaving WWE

Around WrestleMania 39, reports came that The Scottish Warrior’s contract will expire at some point in 2023. In fact, it was claimed that Drew McIntyre is leaving WWE after that. The whole thing caught more fire last month when the 2-time WWE champion blacked out his Twitter profile. Apparently, he is unhappy with his creative direction and the money offered for the contract renewal. Now according to a new report, Drew McIntyre could indeed end up leaving WWE once his contract expires.

Dave Meltzer, in the recent Wrestling Observer Newsletter, provided some major updates on the matter while discussing the WWE Draft 2023. He noted that the company badly needs a heel who can work as a main eventer.

As to Seth Rollins and Cody Rhodes, Meltzer stated, right now, it would be the wrong time to turn both of them heel. That means the only person to go to, is The Scottish Warrior. However, he believes WWE should try to elevate stars like Bronson Reed, Damian Priest, Fin Balor, and Dominik Mysterio.

There’s “a good chance” that Drew McIntyre could be leaving WWE once his contract ends

According to Dave Meltzer, the situation between WWE and The Scottish Warrior hasn’t been sorted yet. In fact, the two parties are far from finalizing the new contract.

Right Now, Drew McIntyre is working in WWE with the idea that he might be leaving the company. Meltzer stated that the 2-time WWE champion feels there’s a good chance he is finishing up.

However, that doesn’t mean Drew McIntyre is leaving WWE without even returning to the ring. Dave Meltzer noted that he might feature in a big storyline for a title. The Scottish Warrior could work as a challenger, but after that, he might leave.

“[Drew] McIntyre right now is working with the idea there’s a good chance he’s finishing up [leaving WWE]. He could do a big program for the title as a challenger and finally leave…”

Considering the success of last year’s Clash At The Castle, WWE decided to a big event in the UK in 2023. On July 1, the company will host this year’s Money In The Bank from the O2 arena in London. However, the show might end up taking place without the biggest British Star on the card.

WWE recently stopped advertising The Scottish Warrior for its upcoming pay-per-view in London

Although so far, no match has been announced for the show, WWE’s official page did advertise Drew McIntyre for the show. However, recently, he was replaced by none other than Roman Reigns.

Is this because things aren’t good between WWE and Drew McIntyre, and he is leaving? Well, it’s too soon to say that, but one thing that’s worth noting is, “The Tribal Chief” wasn’t advertised for the show earlier. And WWE, including him as a substitute, does raise eyes of suspicion.

Nevertheless, McIntyre is currently out due to health issues and is expected to be back in a few weeks. As to his contract renewal, both parties have more than six months to come to a common ground. Though as of now, he hasn’t no new deal with WWE.
