WWE SmackDown May 7 2019: Hits and Misses from Tonight’s SmackDown.

WWE SmackDown May 7 2019: Hits and Misses from tonight’s SmackDown. Here’s a look at all the segments from tonight’s show that we either liked a lot or didn’t like at all.

AJ Styles and Sami Zayn on SmackDown (Hit)

The entire opening segment was golden. AJ was good, Sami as always was brilliant. Kofi however, was the most impressive. Kofi spoke like a man possessed. He looked very assured of himself. If you ever doubted whether Kofi could carry the belt, tonight’s episode more than proved that Kofi can carry the weight on his waists.

He looked like a champion and not just some novelty act that won the championship by fluke. Kofi went on an offered to take on either of AJ or Sami. It was later confirmed that he would take on both at once in a triple threat match.

Andrade Vs Ali (Hit)

This match was announced on the WWE.com last week. Both stars involved in the match are extremely talented. I would like to see them have a proper 20-minute match between them one day. Today was not that day. It was brilliant while it lasted until Randy came down to the ring and you guessed it. RKO’s outta nowhere!

USO’s Vs Daniel Bryan and Erick Rowan (Hit)

Shane McMahon addressed the Vacant SmackDown Tag Titles and announced that he would bestow it upon a worthy team. He called out Bryan and Rowan to the ring and handed them the Titles. The Uso’s followed soon and challenged Bryan and Rowan to a match. They claimed that every champion before them had earned the Titles. It was therefore imperative that Bryan and Rowan earn it too.

The Match was going to be good. The caliber of the stars in the ring wouldn’t allow it to be otherwise. The Uso’s also felt like the USO’s after such a long time. A good break from the annoying character they have there at Raw. The Red Brand has been treating them like Juvenile pranksters. No one wants to see that!

Erick Rowan hit the Claw to give Bryan and him the Tag Belts and from the looks of it, they will most likely feud with Heavy Machinery.

The Miz attacks Shane McMahon (Miss)

May I just point out that Miz was the 5th Raw Superstar show on SmackDown this week. It’s hilarious to see WWE break it’s on rule on both shows less than 24 hours after establishing it. The WWE did mention punishing unsanctioned crosses between brands, so hopefully this will be addressed next week.

The entire segment was very Anti-Climactic. This is all probably leading to a Miz win at Money in the Bank but does Shane always need to have the upper hand till then? Miz has now been made to take the fall, twice in one week on both shows.

The Women’s Tag Team Match (Miss)

Bayley and Charlotte were advertised to be in the Match, but they’ve probably left for the European tour and therefore didn’t feature. It was a disappointing match that barely lasted minutes. Ember moon deserves better. This match was a reminder that if your name is not Charlotte or Becky, then there isn’t much in-store for you by creative.

The WWE Championship Triple Threat match (Hit)

In two nights, Kofi has swept past opponents such as Daniel Bryan and AJ Styles. WWE has given him the opportunities and oh my has the man seized it. Another great Main Event by WWE this week. Another great showing by the champ. There was also an interference by Kevin Owens. Kofi’s opponent for the Money in the Bank Pay per view attacked his friend Xavier Woods.

This distracted the champion enough to get hit by a blue thunder powerbomb. Kofi kicked out of 3 of those in this match. Frustrated, Zayn attempted to hit a Helluva Kick. However, Kofi hit him with his Trouble In Paradise for the win instead. No complains, it was an all-round entertaining match.

Conclusion

The entire show felt like one giant filler. It had it’s good moments but there wasn’t anything spectacular. The show gave you no reason to tune in next week. There were some decent matches but it’s disappointing to see the woman have bathroom break matches like in the early 2000’s. Hopefully SmackDown will be better next week.
