In pro wrestling, it is sometimes hard to discern reality from kayfabe. When Kane was introduced as The Undertaker’s brother, everybody thought for sure that they were real-life brothers. However, that was not the case. The Big Red Monster was simply The Undertaker’s kayfabe or on-screen brother. Similarly, we will unearth if Roman Reigns and The Rock are real-life cousins. The 50-year-old Dwane “The Rock” Johnson is undoubtedly the biggest star in wrestling to have found his breakthrough in Hollywood. The Rock debuted in wrestling in 1995 and became the face of The Attitude Era alongside Stone Cold Steve Austin. The Great One’s God-given talent paved the way for him to make it big in WWE and Hollywood alike.
Today, he is well-known as one of the highest-paid actors in the world. On the other hand, 37-year-old Roman Reigns debuted in WWE in 2010. Much like the Rock in Attitude Era, Roman Reigns is the most superior wrestler on the roster today. His clout in the world of wrestling is unparalleled.
The Tribal Chief is currently the longest reigning Undisputed WWE Champion of his era. Although both wrestlers belong to the Samoan community, are they really cousins and biologically related? The Answer is both Yes and No.
Is The Rock blood-related to Roman Reigns?
Both wrestlers belong to the Anoa’i clan. However, Roman Reigns and The Rock are not blood-related but are blood brothers. Way back in the day, Roman Reign’s grandfather, Amituana’i Anoa’i took in Peter Mavia as a part of the Anoa’i tribe and embraced him as his brother.
Peter Mavia is the maternal grandfather of The Rock. Since that day, Mavia became the uncle of Sika, the father of Roman Reigns. Because of that, the progeny of Mavia became a part of the family tree of the Anoa’i clan.
From the #WildSamoans to the @TheRock to @WWERomanReigns the family all started with PETER MAIVIA! A legendary toughman and huge star in the 60s and 70s, the magnitude of what he did for Wrestling and the Samoan people, cannot be understated! #AsianPacificAmericanHeritageMonth pic.twitter.com/B44q5OSi8R

Interestingly, The Rock’s father, Rocky Johnson was a Black Canadian, and Roman Reigns’ mother, Patricia A. Anoa’i was a white Italian. The late wrestler Rosey was the real-life older brother of Roman Reigns. Yokozuna and Umaga were the Tribal Chief’s first cousins.
The Usos and Nia Jax are also cousins of Roman Reigns. All in all, the inclusion of Peter Mavia into the Anoa’i tribe makes The Rock and Roman Reigns cousins despite not being biologically related.
Will The Rock Vs Roman Reigns happen at WrestleMania 39?
To see The Rock go head-to-head with his cousin Roman Reigns has been a dream match for years. The battle between the brothers is rumored to take place at the grandest stage, WrestleMania 39.
Since The People’s Champ is not a full-time wrestler anymore, there’s always this lingering doubt about whether he will be able to make himself available for this match with his busy Hollywood schedule. Dave Meltzer from Wrestling Observer Radio reported that the match is “possible”.
The Rock vs Roman Reigns is the expected main event of Night 2 of WrestleMania 39.
The Rock will appear on atleast a handful of SmackDown episodes on the Road to WrestleMania.

“Am I saying he’s not going to do it? No, I’m not saying that at all. And if he’s doing it, wow, you have him, Austin, and Cena all on the same show, I guess the best way to put it is Cena is a ‘probable’, and Dwayne is a ‘possible’ maybe a probable, I don’t know, but neither is a sure thing.”
WWE is reportedly planning big matches for the forthcoming WrestleMania featuring top stars and wrestling legends. Although the match between Reigns and The Rock is not etched in stone yet, it is likely to take place.
